Like Polish jokes sardar jokes have come to stay

But the true spirit of Sikhs is something else:

Sardars reflect the strength , industry and vitality of not only Punjab and
India: Wherever they have settled be it U.S.A, Canada, Italy, New Zealand
they have earned the appreciation of the locals by dint of their hard
work ! As a community

the 'kar sewa' which they render in the Gurudwaras is unmatched. rich or
poor, Guru's langars are open to all ! I still remember an incident which
showed their spirit o public service,

The local Tamil community in Janakpuri , Delhi was celebrating the
Kumbhabishekam of the famous "Rajarajeswari Temple" there.

It fell on a hoottest April afternoon few years back. The organisers did
not perhaps anticipate such crowds of devotees! The arrangement which they
had made for provision of drinking water to the devotees was totally
inadequate. Women and children were lliterally crying for drinking water.

Seeing this , three sikh gentlemen living adjacent to the temple complex
tackled the problem within few minutes.

In no time they procured 20 polyurethene drums fitted with faucets from the
nearby Tentwala: phoned the local Municipal Councillor to arrange for two
"'Drinkmg Water Tankers" . Within 10 minutes the Councillor was there and
the Water Tankers arrived. Within another 5 Minutes ICE Blocks started
arriving in tempos: The drums were filled up : Ice Blocks were cleaned and
dropped in the water drums: Huge quantities of largesize papercups
appeared from nowhere: With the help of

other volunteers the Water Drums were placed on wooden

tables at different spots. The thirsty devotees were helped to form queues
to access drinking water . The good samaritans did not bother about the
cost. When the organizers honoured the Sikh gentlemen in the evening along
with the

Priests who conducted the Kumbhabishekam the whole crowd

of devotees acclaimed, cheered and applauded. The speed with which they
acted and the resources they could garner in a such a short time was
amazing.

The attached anecdote which my friend vouches to be true

brings out another special charateristic of the community.

 <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Hindi_Jokes> We all love Sardar
jokes. But do you know that Sikhs are the most hard working, prosperous and
diversified communities in the world.

 <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Hindi_Jokes>
My friend told me about the following incident which I wish to share with
you.

 <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Hindi_Jokes>

<http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Hindi_Jokes> It has had a deep impact on my
thinking.
During last vacation, his few friends came to Delhi . They rented a taxi for
local sight-seeing. The driver was an old Sardar and boys being boys, these
pals began cracking Sardarji jokes, just to tease the old man. But to their
surprise, the fellow remained unperturbed.
At the end of the sight-seeing, they paid the cab hire-charges. The Sardar
returned the change, but he gave each one of them one rupee extra and said,
''Son, since morning you have been telling Sardarji jokes.. I listened to
them all and let me tell you, some of them were in bad taste. Still, I don't
mind coz I know that you are young blood and are yet to see the world..
But I have one request. I am giving you one rupee each. Give it to the first
Sardar beggar that you come across in this or any other city.'
My friend continued,* ' That one rupee coin is still with me. I couldn't
find a single Sardar begging anywhere.'

MORAL:
The secret behind their universal success, is their willingness to do any
job with utmost dedication and pride. A Sardar will drive a truck or set up
a roadside garage or a dhaba, put a fruit juice stall, take up small time
carpentry, ... but he will never beg on the streets.
