About Surveillance Strategy & Optimization, Financial Crime The Surveillance Strategy & Optimization team within the wider Barclays Financial Crime function owns and supports AML Transaction Monitoring platforms and processes across all businesses and jurisdictions of Barclays. The team is responsible for ensuring AML TM meets internal policies and regulatory requirements as well as to ensure systems, scenarios, and rules are optimized to provide effective and efficient coverage. About Financial Crime Analytics, Surveillance Strategy & Optimization The Financial Crime Analytics team play a pivotal role within SSO providing crucial analytical support for the optimization of TM platforms. ---------------- Overall purpose of role The candidate will be responsible for conducting validation and optimization analytics against AML Transaction Monitoring scenarios/rules. Responsibilities include testing surveillance scenarios and analysis of scenario performance with the primary goal of recommendations to optimize scenario parameter thresholds and configuration. Analysis will require the extensive use of quantitative/statistical techniques through tools such as SAS, R and/or Python. Experience working with such tools, and experience with relational databases (Oracle SQL or similar) is crucial. Key Accountabilities * Application of statistical techniques (univariate, multivariate analysis, predictive modelling techniques, machine learning techniques) through appropriate tools (SAS, R) to optimization and improve scenario performance. * Documentation of optimization recommendations * Presentation of recommendations to senior management/stakeholders * Enhance data extraction and pre-processing processes (SQL) * R&D into the use of statistical and quantitative analytical techniques to enhance AML TM * Support the development of big-data infrastructure and toolsets (hadoop, hive etc) * Support ad-hoc analytics projects Stakeholder Management and Leadership In addition to technical ability, this role requires sound communication and presentation skills to ensure complex, technical recommendations are effectively communicated to a broad audience of both technical and non-technical managers. You will be responsible for ensuring both the written and verbal presentation of analytical reports are appropriately received and accepted by management. Decision-making and Problem Solving AML Optimization requires an inquisitive mind and creative ability in addition to technical/quantitative analytics skills. You will work with fellow Financial Crime Analytics colleagues and the broader Investigations & Surveillance area to understand the importance of automated AML alert generation. This understanding must then be translated into effective tuning and enhancements to AML TM processes. The candidate must ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards. Person Specification Basic Qualifications * Bachelors/Four-year college degree in a quantitative field with such as Statistics, Operational Research, Mathematics, Economics or Computer Science.
