Our knowledge of protein structures has increased exponentially in the past 30 years or so .In 1970, there were only four protein structures known. By 1990, about 300 structures has been solved. Today more than 140000 structures are stored in Protein data bank and several hundred new ones are deposited every month. At the same time, however, our knowledge of protein sequenced has increased at an even faster rate in the recent years. Chemist, biochemist and biologist thus increasingly face the intellectual imperative of developing effective and rapid methods for prediction of protein structures.
