While not an uncommon species - they are uncommonly early - Steels x Bronte
Street North. Opposite the Robertson Screw Building along the train tracks.
They nest here every year.. .
Also saw what I thought was a Swallow Tailed Kite late week flying toward the
Mill Pond. Can anyone confirm
Rob Dobos just phoned to advise of a Western Grebe about 40 feet offshore on
the east side of Hutches at the east end of the parking lot.
Directions to Van Wagners Beach: Take the Centennial Parkway (Hwy.20) exit
from the QEW in east Hamilton and proceed north to the North Service Rd.,
The Western Grebe was still present, along with a Common Loon, in the mouth of
the Oshawa harbour channel at 2:10pm.
The harbour is at the south end of Simcoe St., and the channel is only 30m east
of the parking lot.

Ontbirders:
The Western Grebe continues to be seen at Van Wagner's Beach. Birders looking
for the bird should park at the far eastern end of the VWB parking lot, towards
Confederation Park, not off Hutches. Go out to the beach and look from there.

The Western Grebe continues to be seen off Van Wagner's Beach, east of Hutch's
Restaurant. The bird is quite distant and a scope is recommended, but it can be
seen with binoculars.
An Iceland Gull is also present.

As reported earlier, the Western Grebe could still be seen
about half way between Hutch's and Barangas, fairly close to
shore, at 8:15 P.M. this evening.
Might be worth a try in the morning

The bird was present between 4:15 PM-4:45 PM, viewed well east of Hutch's,
along the beach. It was quite a ways out,and scope is recommended, but seemed
to be making its way slowly westward towards the restaurant. Thanks to the two
fine gentlemen from Long Point who put me on the bird, I
Mark Cranford approved my sending this post to the group…
Due to a late cancellation, the Manitoba Breeding Bird Atlas is seeking an
experienced point-counter for a remote atlassing trip into Wapusk National
Park. A team of 6 will walk and paddle from the railway line to the Hudson Bay
coast
