Just a little follow up to my post. I am fairly confident when I ruled out a
Brant with no collar, neck too long and this goose has an obvious colour
transition mid way up neck. Regarding Dark phase Juvenile Snow Goose it had no
white in underwing coverts or auxiliaries. As for possible

The Lark Sparrow is still braving the cold here in Toronto. It was foraging on
the pavement on the opposite side of the fence from the pathway, near a red
shed.
We parked on Villiers, and walked north just past Lakeshore. The pathway the
bird has been seen along is just right
Heads up Essex county birders-This morning I observed a medium sized goose
flying west along the Detroit River in front of Peche Island. First thought
Brant. However, the head and top section of neck all same deep BROWN. Obvious
contrast to lower lighter warm brown bottom portion of neck and
Four (4) Hooded mergansers (1 male and 3 females) were at Jackson's
Point on Lake Simcoe in Georgina (northern York Region) at 10:15a.m. and
11:20 a.m. yesterday Dec. 13 on the water with mallards, bufflehead,
common mergansers etc. in the protected harbour. One (1) other female
was swimming
