The adult Slaty-backed Gull was sitting on Mohawk Lake from 11:00 a.m. until
3:00 p.m today (directions below). It was there when I left. It flew off at
2:40 but was noted back on the lake at 2:50. There were 1500 gulls there today
(counted by 10s), mostly Herring Gulls, but 40 Great-blacked
The Red Phalarope reported previously by Steve Charbonneau was present today
(Wednesday) at Noon at Keith McLean Conservation Area. It was actively feeding
on the wet mud and swimming in the water at the end of the trail from the

The Black-headed Gull was seen by many observers throughout the day until at
least 3:20 pm at the Whirlpool Aero Car along the Niagara River.
Directions: From the QEW exit at Highway 405 and then take the Stanley
Ave/RR102 to River Road. 3850 Niagara Parkway, Niagara Falls

There is a female black scoter off the north end of the East Headland - close
to shore. Buffy cheek and throat, dark chestnut stripe on head top, black bill.
With white-wings and long-tails. Will post pics later. Also, there is a towhee
near the Creek bridge, but later...
Humber Bay East Park
I normally do not report most owls but this reliable one is safely on
private property (also it is not breeding season...) and I know that *the
homeowners do not welcome trespassers* but *it is easily viewed from the
well plowed shoulder of highway 11*. Do not remain at the side of the
highway too
