FYI, the Western Grebe is visible from Erieau, but the light is best in the
latter part of the day. Although the bird may be seen with binoculars, a scope
is required to see the bird adequately.

Directions: From hwy 401, take exit #90 (Communications Rd.) and head south
into Blenheim. At the intersection of the main street of Blenheim, turn right
(west) and head through the town, continuing about 4 km to Erieau Road. Take
Erieau Road, into Erieau, and keep right through the village and follow the
signs to the main pier and channel. Look across the channel towards the south
beach of Rondeau and scan for the grebe.

Alternatively, go to Rondeau Provincial Park (permit required) and drive to the
south end of Lakeshore Road. From there, take South Point Trail beyond where it
turns back through the forest, and continue to walk along the south beach. It
is probably at least a 4 km hike (one way) from where you will need to park the
car. Please be aware that if you choose this option, there may be quite a few
turtles nesting, or attempting to nest on the south beach, so be cautious and
give them lots of leeway so as not to interrupt their egg-laying.

> You may be able to see it from Erieau. For those who saw the Frigatebird last
