Hi

I relocated the Black-headed Gull in the same location today around 1:30 pm. No
birder/photographer in a pink coat though. See Wayne Renaud's directions below.

Subject: [Ontbirds] Black-headed Gull on Niagara River, Ft. Erie (11 December
2015)

Today between 10:45 and 11:00 am Tim McCarthy and I found one Black-head
Gull feeding with about 60 Bonaparte's Gulls in waters fairly close to the
rip-rap walls of Unity Island sewage treatment plant. There was a
birder/photographer with a pink winter coat on the island that appeared to
be photographing this relatively rare species bird. With good back
lighting we able to clearly make out the key field marks: slightly larger
than adjacent BOGUs and smaller than RBGUs; notably darker inner primaries;
round tail with black band; U-shaped 'helmet' extending of eye. The color
of the bill could not be determined. Once located we able to watch it move
back and forth for quite distance within 30-40 meters of the edge of island
suggesting that, at times, it was within Canada waters. This may or may
not be the same Black-headed Gull seen at this location by Alec Humann on 5
December and later reported by David Pryor and Len Manning.

Directions:
QEW south exiting at Central Street; then north to park on either Gilmore
Road or Wintemute Street. You can scope bird from the grassy areas between
trees on side of the river and east side of Niagara Parkway which not a
busy road.
