This morning and early afternoon we counted 342 Whimbrels at Colonel Sam Smith Park, Toronto. The first flock of 90 flew by at 7:06 a.m. At about 1:00 p.m. a flock of 66 settled on the rocks (see Rod Murray's Ontbirds post) by providing excellent views and an opportunity to study them at a safe distance. Possibly a separate flock of 9 also settled on the rocks to rest. A Peregrine Falcon flushed them all around 2:50 p.m.
