Observation start time: 08:00:00
Observation end time: 15:00:00
Total observation time: 7 hours

Official Counter: Cindy Cartwright

Observers: Michael Williamson

Visitors:
Surprisingly, a number of people came out in spite of the poor weather
forecast. A visitor from Toronto decided that the hawk tower was a better
choice than Point Pelee today.

Kory Renaud came up on his lunch break and HBMO volunteers Dan and Mary
Lonke stopped by for a while.

Sammy and Christine Bishay visited for an hour or so this afternoon, and
Neil arrived late in the count period.

Weather:
The forecast for today was bang on. The day started with rain and ended
with thunder, storm clouds and rain coming across the marsh. Winds were
from the south and southwest most of the day.

Raptor Observations:
An uninspiring day on the tower with very few raptors. Fortunately, there's
always great scenery and activity on Lake Erie to pass the time at Holiday
Beach.

Non-raptor Observations:
A quiet day overall. See the non-raptor observations at
http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S39163529

The 2 highlights were a pair of Downy Woodpeckers sparring and interacting,
and a Great Blue Heron that speared a 12" catfish and then couldn't figure
out how to eat it. Although it looked like an adult, it acted like a young
bird on its first fishing trip.

Predictions:
Another day of south winds - it's not looking very good.
