Highlights: A big thaw with plenty of rain at the tail-end of the week still didn't reveal any surprises but nevertheless, some nice finds were noted due mainly to a number of Christmas Bird Counts taking place. Here are the highlights of the last 6 days: GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE - a single bird was seen at RMC, Kingston, on 16th and remained to 20th, at least. CACKLING GOOSE - a single bird was found amongst the Canada Geese at Reed's Bay, Wolfe Island, on 16th. GLAUCOUS GULL - a single bird was seen at Prince Edward Point on 15th. SNOWY OWL - Fluctuating numbers on both Wolfe and Amherst Islands probably indicate new arrivals. 41 birds were counted on Amherst on 20th. Pleases keep your distance to reduce negative impacts and always respect private property. TUFTED TITMOUSE - a lone bird has been hanging out at a private feeder on Wolfe Island for several weeks. MARSH WREN - two birds were noted this week. One was at Kingston Mills on 16th and another was at Little Cataraqui Creek CA, Kingston, on 19th. CAROLINA WREN - a single bird was seen in downtown Kingston on 17th. HERMIT THRUSH - a late bird was seen at marshlands CA, Kingston, on 20th. EVENING GROSBEAK - there were consistent records from a private feeder near Verona all week, with other sightings including 1 in Kingston on 17th and 9 near Brewers Mills on 20th. PINE GROSBEAK - there were several sightings in the Kingston area this week, with a high of 12 at Little Cataraqui Creek CA, Kingston, on 19th. COMMON REDPOLL - there were fairly consistent sightings from the islands this week, with a high of 90 on Wolfe Island on 16th. PINE SISKIN - some higher counts this week with 8 on Amherst Island on 15th and 35 on Howe Island on 16th. SNOW BUNTING - the only record this week was of 100 birds seen on Wolfe Island on 16th. WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW - a single bird was seen with House Sparrows in Kingston on 16th. SWAMP SPARROW - a single bird was at Marshlands CA, Kingston, on 16th. RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD - a single bird was seen near Lansdowne on 20th. COMMON GRACKLE - a single bird was seen on Amherst Island on 19th.
