Highlights: The weather has remained very cold and bitter most of this last week, with a fresh dumping of snow today. Inland lakes are mainly frozen and smaller bays are iced up around Lake Ontario. Here are the highlights of the last week: WOOD DUCK - a female was present in Cataraqui Bay, Kingston 19th-20th. HARLEQUIN DUCK - a female bird was seen near Sandhurst Shores on 18th. SURF SCOTER - 4 birds were seen on Simcoe Island on 17th. NORTHERN GOSHAWK - an immature was seen in Kingston on 17th. SNOWY OWL - numbers on Wolfe Island increased to 19 on 17th. Disappointingly, folks have been trespassing on Amherst Island to photograph these birds. All farmland on both islands is private. YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER - single continuing birds were seen near Battersea on 16th and Lower Brewer's Mills on 19th. MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD - the female bird was seen regularly throughout the week on Babylon Road, Prince Edward. HERMIT THRUSH - a single bird was seen at Little Cataraqui CA, Kingston on 17th. NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD - a single bird was seen on Amherst Island on 16th. LAPLAND LONGSPUR - not so many sightings this week, though 8 were seen on Wolfe Island on 17th. YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER - a number of records with 1 near Elginburg on 10th and 14th, 2 singles near Camden East on 14th, and 3 just south of Westport, also on 14th. SAVANNAH SPARROW - a lone bird was seen on 5th Line, Wolfe Island, on 17th. FOX SPARROW - 2 birds were seen near Aldolphustown on 18th. WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW - an immature was seen near Adolphustown on 16th, with another on Howe Island on 17th. SWAMP SPARROW - a respectable Christmas count of 9 was logged on 17th. EASTERN TOWHEE - a single bird was located on pine Grove Road, near Lower Brewer's Mills on 22nd. EASTERN MEADOWLARK - 2 birds were seen near Gananoque on 19th. RUSTY BLACKBIRD - a flock of 12 birds was seen near Hay Bay on 16th, with a further record of 4 in Kingston on 17th, and 2 near Hawley on 20th. COMMON GRACKLE - a single bird was seen in Kingston on 17th, with another near Gananoque on 19th.
