Highlights: A turn to southerly winds finally brought milder conditions and fresh waves of arriving migrants. Nothing unusual has been seen, though several first of year birds have arrived. Here are the highlights of the last week: SNOW GOOSE - A good flight (for our area) came through on 26th with almost 3500 birds seen in Kingston. CACKLING GOOSE - 3 birds were seen at Aldolphustown on 24th, with another at Crosby on 26th. BLUE-WINGED TEAL - early birds were at Perch River WMA, NY on 21st. NORTHERN SHOVELER - also late, the first 2 birds were at Kaiser Cross road, Prince Edward County on 28th. GREEN-WINGED TEAL - slow to arrive, the first bird was seen on 24th, with a couple of sightings later in the week. COMMON LOON - the first of the year was seen on Wolfe Island on 27th. PIED-BILLED GREBE - although we had an adventurous bird back in February, a new arrival showed up at Marshlands CA, Kingston on 30th. OSPREY - the first bird of the year was seen at RMC, Kingston on 27th. SANDHILL CRANE - birds returned to Crosby on 24th and have been occasionally seen/heard since. Others have been noted at Murvale and Millhaven. SNOWY OWL - birds continue on Wolfe and Amherst Islands though numbers are declining. All farmland on both islands is private - please no trespassing. Other birds are being seen at various locations on the mainland as they move north. KILLDEER - not unexpected but good numbers arrived this week. PEREGRINE FALCON - the only sighting this week was near the Richardson Stadium, Kingston on 30th. EASTERN PHOEBE - the second of the season was seen inland at Charleston Lake on 25th.
