As of about 1:30 pm on Sept. 8, the continuing Western Grebe was still in the bay off the most westerly point of Colonel Sam, where a red light lamppost stands. But it was swimming closest to the Twenty Third Street Parkette. The bird was diving without any Cormorants around for the majority of the time which I watched it. It was quite far off the point, dove often and was under for a while each time, but once picked out from the others it was relatively easy to identify. Only after comparing it to the other birds in the bay.
There were also 7 Palm Warblers in 2 ash trees on that same point, but otherwise it was too hot for most bird life. When on Colonel Sam Smith Dr, go until the road ends, to the southern most parking lot or try 23rd St. Baxter Naday _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
