With few exceptions, many of the COMMON REDPOLLS and PINE SISKINS that
descended on feeders last week, appear to have either dispersed, or are
appearing more sporadically, or in
Ontbird Readers
It's disappointing that this has to be said again but as Ontbirds
coordinator I continue to receive emails expressing concerns over
trespassing by birders (some of them with cameras) and a property
owner's expectation to privacy. If we continue to ignore the concerns
of
Conditions and birds present are similar to those reported
for early January. A summary of reported sightings this
week follows:
Spruce Grouse: no reports this week; try Spruce Bog
Boardwalk and Opeongo Road.
Wild Turkey: two still visiting feeders at campsites in
Mew Lake Campground.
The only open water locally includes Chaffey's Lock with a male Wood Duck, a
Green-winged Teal and 16 Trumpeter Swans last weekend; the Dupont lagoon
which has a variety of waterfowl if one is patient enough to sort through
all the Mallards, Blacks and Gadwall and the ferry channels that usually
Today around noon, near Glen Morris I saw 2 bald eagles by the Grand River and
two male eastern bluebirds in the shrubbery.
Glen Morris is about 7 kilometer from Cambridge.

Today Ian Cannell and I went out to look for Snowy Owls and in this we were
very successful with 11 Snowies found.
Or first 2 were 1 along 9th Line and 1 along 10th Line just north of Beeton.
Beeton is north of Bolton and west of Bradford, Exit #64 on Hwy 400.

I forgot to mention that there was a small flock of a dozen Snow Buntings along
Conc. 7 Sunnidale southwest of Edenvale ( south of Strongville ) and with them
were 2 Lapland Longspurs.
Something else to watch for.

Hello ONTBirders:
The male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE is still present on the small unfrozen portion of
the Rideau River near the Rideau Tennis Club. Today it was present in the
patch of water near the 417 bridge at around 8am this morning, and again at
5pm. Otherwise the open water was dominated
A number of people tried for the Spotted Towhee today. No one saw it.
There is a suggestion that people standing in the driveway were
deterring the bird from visiting the feeder and a suggestion that
birders stay on the road tomorrow.
