Yesterday I spotted the first pair of Horned Larks at the side of road 130,
just south of the intersection with Hwy #8, in Sebringville.

Good Day
Today I birded Wards and Algonquin Islands and a small part of Centre Island on
the Toronto islands and following are a few of the birds seen including a few
or a couple that Toronto Winter birders may still want.
Trumpeter Swan, 3 Surf Scoters, 68 White-winged Scoters, Sharp-shined
There was also a Tundra Swan on the lake off the boardwalk.

A female Hornemann's hoary redpoll continues to visit niger seed
feeders at Queen's University Biological Station (QUBS) off Opinicon
Road in Eastern Ontario. This bird was first present on Feb 9 and has
been seen almost daily since. Morning tends to be the best time to see
it.
Other birds of
Yesterday I counted 31 Bald Eagles (adults and juveniles), 30 on the ice and 1
in the air, just to the right of Peche Island in the Detroit River. These are
the same birds reported by Paul Pratt last week. Also many Canvasback, Redhead,
Common Goldeneye, Scaup and Common Merganser were feeding
For those interested in such oddities there is a sensational drake hybrid near
the little burg of Union, Elgin County. It shows a fascinating intermixture of
Mallard and Pintail features.
Union is on Hwy 4 south of St Thomas, about midway to Lake Erie at Pt Stanley.

January 2, 2011 was found dead on the side of the road near where it has
been observed hunting by several birders on the morning of Monday, February 14,
