The American avocet that was found yesterday by Justin White and reported by Mark Read was still present this morning at 9:30. When I first found it, it was in the NW corner of the marsh, only visible from the berm trail that parallels the western edge of Second Marsh.
It was flushed by an unidentified by raptor and flew down towards the SW corner where I relocated it approximately 15 minutes later at 9:45. The bird can be seen from the opening at the SW corner of the marsh near the pumphouse or from the platform with a scope. To reach Second Marsh from Toronto, take the 401E to Harmony St. in Oshawa. Head south on Farewell to Colonel Sam Drive and take a left (east). The viewing platform is on the west side of the main GM building (the blue one from the highway). Cheers and good birding Tim Logan _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
