I just got back from a week at my cottage near Tweed and there has been a
very large movement of warblers. Yesterday I was able to locate a
*Golden-Winged
Warbler* and a *Blue-Winged Warbler *on an old tractor path just off of
Sunsmile lane at 44.436465, -77.289704. Identifiable photos were
Small group of 8 Red Crossbills out in the open, preening themselves in tops of
dead trees near the small stream on Bull Road in Baltimore, 5pm Saturday August
19.
Good scope views – one streaky juv., one first year male close to adult
plumage, the rest female-looking.
Fairly silent group –
At 9.50 this morning, Saturday August 19, as I walked down towards Beach 2 at
Presquile Park, 2 juvenile Long-tailed Jaegers appeared overhead,
half-heartedly annoying a small group of gulls.
Both were slender, dark birds with narrow pointed wings, a graceful buoyant
flight, and tell-tale
At 0915 h, I had a possible female (possibly a first year bird) Audubon's
on the ridge at Britannia C.A. The bird had a faint yellowish blush to the
throat but what really caught my attention was it's very plain appearance,
especially to the head and throat; essentially devoid of any field marks
This is my second and summary report for the period 6 to 14 August 2017 from
Longridge Point (51.798942N, 080.69204W) on the southwest coast of James Bay
in Ontario about 910 km (565 mi) north of Toronto. This report pertains only
to Longridge. The vast tidal mudflats make James Bay one of the
