Temperatures well below freezing caused the few open water areas to be reduced
by ice formation and new snow covered the scarce patches of bare ground this
week. New migrants were limited to Snow Bunting (March 8) and Mourning Dove
(March 9). However, it was a good time to see Otters on the ice

Jumping the gun on the annual Waterfowl Festival set to take place this
Saturday and Sunday at Presqu'ile Provincial Park, many birders have
been in the Park since last weekend and have been rewarded with plenty
of ducks, including one rarity.

Highlights were rather limited this week. A female BARROW’S GOLDENEYE was
fairly cooperative near Strathcona Park from the
Ontbirds subscribers:
Today I managed to find some noteworthy geese while birding along the St.
Lawrence River, from Cardinal to Cornwall. My sightings of interest, from E
to W, are detailed below:
GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE: I tallied an adult among Canada Geese at the
east bridge of Long

The Barnacle Goose is still on the ice of the pond by the Trisan Centre. Best
viewing is from the road on the north of the pond.
Dillane Drive can be accessed off highway 27, just south of the hwy 9/hwy 27
intersection on Schomberg.
