I was able to see the Red Knot reported by Ryan Griffiths this evening
around 7:30 tonight. Others present included Josh Vandermeulen, Marcie and
Tim Jacklin and their friend Judy.
The bird was at the Wainfleet Wetlands - the old stone quarry on Quarry Rd
in Wainfleet.

While not a sighting in Ontario, I thought this might interest our good
neighbors:
Shelley Seidman found a Loggerhead Shrike at Times Beach Nature Preserve in
Buffalo. The bird was moving about a bit - during the time I was there it
was anywhere from ground level to about 40'. Others who were
A dozen folks were involved in this year's Whippoorwill Trip to Wainfleet,
ON. The group was a mix of newer and experienced birders, and all were able
to hear at least *3 Whippoorwills *(possibly 4) when they began to call
shortly after 9:00 pm.
Birds also present included *2 Black-billed
I had a Black-legged Kittiwake at Unity Island this afternoon. This was the
first time I had a kittiwake in adult plumage. There are very poor photos
on eBird.
Mike G with Pat M and Kyle B found a very close Little Gull (and I believe
a second across the River in Fort Erie). Kevin Rybczynski’s
This evening on Willson Rd in Wainfleet there were 2 Eastern Whippoorwills
calling. One of these birds moved several times, ultimately landing close
enough for a fair recording.
Also present were 1 Yellow-billed Cuckoo and 2 cuckoo sp.

This evening there were at least 7 Eastern Whippoorwill, 6 American
Woodcock and 1 Great Horned Owl at Wainfleet Bog. The attached
checklist includes a recording of the closest of the Whips.

There was an American White Pelican out on Mohawk Island at Rock Point this
afternoon. It is best viewed with a scope, but heat shimmer was rather
intense. among the many Tennessee Warblers near the western end of the park.
