The 4th Sandbanks Christmas Bird Count was held on December 18, 2018 22 observers counted 74 species (lowest ever, count average 83 species) and 11,280 Individuals (2nd highest for count)
5 New species for the count, bringing the count total to 119 species. Red-shouldered Hawk (1) Black Vulture (2), Eastern Screech Owl (2) Common Redpoll (167) Pine Grosbeak (9) 15 High records set including: Canada Goose 4682 Ruffed Grouse 23 Turkey Vulture 57 Birds were only counted coming out of 2 roosts locations, with 1 being a new roost found during count. The west Picton roost outside of the circle was not counted. Bald Eagle 18 Hairy Woodpecker 23 Common Raven 25 14 lowest records set including All gulls were sparse. Greater Scaup 6 Redhead 3 White-winged Scoter 12 Wild Turkey 2 Mourning Dove 28 American Robin 21 European Starling 419 American Tree Sparrow 49 Notable Species missed include:Ring-necked Duck, Common Loon, Bonaparte's Gull, Merlin,Swamp Sparrow, and Red-winged Blackbird.
