Hi All, I managed to stop by the wetlands after arriving home from the hawkwatch tonight and the 2 Hudsonian Godwits were still present as of 7:30 p.m.....and the last I saw them they were preening and seem to be ready to hunker down for the night.
I was concerned they might have been scared off as a young N. Harrier made a run right on the deck and put up every bird in that cell...and I was amazed at how many there were (well over 200). It provided a great opportunity to see several different species flying together...including the godwits. Luckily, all of the birds seemed to return to the cell and settle in....with the exception of 3 Short-billed Dowitchers which headed out... calling repeatedly... and did not appear to return. Also of note....there was a good number of Stilt Sandpipers....at least 12 (and possibly more)...definitely the most I've ever had at the WPW here in Mitchell. There also appeared to have been an influx of Semipalmated Plovers (10+) since yesterday. Both Baird's Sandpipers were still around as well.
