Highlights of reports received July 11 through July 25 from the Niagara Frontier Region. The early migrant shorebirds have begun to turn southward and cross the region. July 17, in the Niagara County Town of Wilson, a WHIMBREL with LESSER YELLOWLEGS and 36 LEAST SANDPIPERS on Hulbert Road. At Youngstown- Wilson Road and Fitch Road, two alternate plumage, or breeding plumage, STILT SANDPIPERS with GREATER YELLOWLEGS, numbers of LESSER YELLOWLEGS, and a PEREGRINE FALCON. Also the 17th, on Lake Ontario, an immature FORSTER'S TERN on the Wilson Pier with several COMMON TERNS, CASPIAN TERNS and GREAT BLACK-B. GULLS. From the Lake Erie shore, July 19, a WILLET at Sunset Beach, next to the mouth of Cattaraugus Creek. In suburban Lancaster, GREEN HERONS nesting in a backyard spruce tree. July 13, five young herons were out of the nest, located two miles from the nearest waterway - Buffalo Creek in Elma. And, PEREGRINE FALCONS, certainly from the UB South Campus nest site on Winspear Avenue, were reported around and about the nearby VA Hospital on Bailey Avenue.
