Good morning Ontbirders, At 10:20 AM this morning, I observed a flock or 7-8 Red Crossbills fly into the top of a tamarack tree near my cottage in Tobermory. They stayed for about a minute then flew off over my head in a southeasterly direction. I was not able to relocate them. I suspect that they were Type 1, since the bill size did not appear to be large, and there was an eBird report yesterday of a flock on Manitoulin Island about 25 miles away. Their flight call closely matched those I checked on Xeno Canto.
They may still be in the area and I will report again if I see them. Contact me privately if you need more information. DIRECTIONS: From Highway 6 in Tobermory, turn right on Head Street and follow it along as it becomes Harpur Drive. Harpur ends at Elgin Street. Turn right and follow the road around the next bend in the road where it becomes Grant Watson Drive. The birds were seen about 150 m past the next bend in the road (to the right) near lot #19. Good luck!
