Mark, I'd keep him on antibiotics and put some sort of protection over the eye while it heals. Your choices are to sew or superglue the eyelid shut temporarily, or to use some sort of an eye patch. They make eye patches for cattle that you can get at the feed store and might be able to

The problem with these is you don't know which ones are eating it and which aren't - some will not touch these blocks while others may eat it until they pop, so some get some wormer and others get none - that's the same with the safeguard pellets, some will eat them and some won't. Onalee   -

Just from my experience, I used Safeguard on my sheep at my Vet's suggestion (changing from Ivomec which I had always used before with no problems), shortly after that 3 died. After several trips of the vet to me and me to the vet with other sick sheep, she realized that she failed to tell me that

OK... I have raised 1100+ sheep and my lambing starts in March where I expect another 300 lambs to be born. I have doctored many many situations but have never had to deal with a poked out eye! I have a ram that has ruined his left eye (somehow). I have been treating it with anti-biotics (LA-200

A little off the subject of poor Sally but has anyone tried the Safeguard mineral block? ($40 here) Someone locally said they tried it on cattle and it wasn't enough. I think I'll get one since it's so hard to segregate each animal and the alfalfa pellets I put the liquid one into. I've tried

I purchased this last year and haven't had to use it yet, but it is comforting to know it is there. I plan to use it to milk my goat this year. The device has a solid reputation and has been featured in Sheep! Magazine. (Anything endorsed by that magazine's editor is usually good.) My only conc

If the Safeguard isn't effective then I agree why bother using it. But Safeguard is still effective on many populations of parasites (those that have not developed resistance). The nice thing about Safeguard is it is much safer as the name implies on a weak animal. I know of no other wormer safe

I hate to promote a certain brand but I use Kent milk replacer. My lambs do great! I have 21 now! The only catch is that I mix it at about 20oz of water instead of 16. This makes it not so rich and give scours or bloat if they happen to over eat just a little and also pepto will take care of it

Just my 2 cents on wormers . I have found safeguard to be as effective as WATER in worming sheep (in other words NOT!). I would suggest, if that is the problem with Sally, that you use Cydectin drench instead of safeguard. I do agree that an injectable is in order and switching between 2 different

I agree with Cecil, delivery should have been faster. Most of my sheep deliver their lambs without my presence. But if I am around and they go into labor I assist (unless my help is very obviously not needed). They usually do not like my being there but to bad! When I see hooves I move in and p
