Has something happened to GNOME in BLFS?.
It's missing quite a few packages, like gnome-session. Without that,
you're not getting very far.
There's no mention of it anywhere.

Well, I reunpacked and built again; this time it built fine. No idea

packages before putting them in
the system is the proper way to go and should be in the default
instructions.
The packages I make are just tarballs with the files going into the
system, and is very primitive, but it's better than to just install
directly into the system.
