My computer has two USB 3.0 external ports. I often see external hard
drives sold using the 3.0 capability. Could the same result be
achieved using an internal SATA III drive connected to the computer
either one's own external case or using a USB bridge?

Providing the external case or bridge are both USB 3.0 capable. All
the links in any chain must be equal to achieve the maximum results.

OK, thanks. Since the case I have and bridge also are old my guess is
they are only USB 2.0. Is there any way to tell?
