Re: [blind-gamers] not impressed with support I have received for aheros call

2018-05-07 Thread Bryan Peterson
That by itself doesn’t necessarily mean anything. I’ll definitely agree that
the Out of Sight situation is distressing. I’ll agree that Joseph could be
better about communication, even if it was just to say he doesn’t currently
know where things currently stand. As for VGStorm I’m not all that surprised.
They seem to have a habit of releasing games and then not updating much, but
that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re gone. Aaron doesn’t generally churn out
games at the speed of light.

This is true, although do keep in mind what happened to Craconis and
then they made a comeback. Ian was a major part of out of sight games,
so him leaving is really more of a big deal than some folks realize.
Ian code the engine from scratch, so without Ian there's no other dev
that knows the engine more than him.

Re: [blind-gamers] not impressed with support I have received for a heros call

2018-05-07 Thread Alex Wallis via Groups.Io

Hi all, thanks for the many replies.

so to start with I fully accept people have other priorities in life and
that in the grand scheme of things a game isn't a big deal.

the thing with the game is that it detects jaws as an available output
option so it knows that jaws exists when its running but I suppose I
will have to put up with the suggested work around for now.

I wasn't aware of any of the history with out of sight games I haven't
really kept an eye on the list properly for the last few years and have
just dipped in and out from time to time to see what is happening.

as people have said even a basic reply would be nice just to say I got
your email or to tell me that jaws compatibility isn't possible for some
reason, and if its not they should have some mechanism to detect that
jaws is running and warn people that it won't work and explicitly update
the documentation to tell people that jaws doesn't work with it. I also
don't expect an instant response, I sent my first email to them a day or
two after purchasing the game, and my second along with a tweet about a
week after, so I would say that's not exactly demanding an instant
response. But either they need to support customers even if they are not
going to update the game any more, or they should make it a free title.

to the person who mentioned nugget I agree with you there about its
author, plus he isn't at all interested in people making suggestions for
improvements and he is quite arrogant as well.

I actually wrote to him a while back with some questions about his rss
reader and he didn't reply to me, as his reader seems quite simplistic
and lacks features like starting with the computer or automatically
refreshing feeds in the background and notifying people that they have
been updatedd, which are two features I need to have for a pc based rss
reader as my ios reader can do that, but it doesn't work with some
particular feeds. so you would think in that situation he could have got
back to me either saying my reader doesn't do these things or yes mine
does that as then I would have bought it, instead no reply.

about nvda I know its very comparable to jaws, I guess I find the idea
of learning a hole new screen reader rather daunting though I do know
about the training material out there, the very comprehensive series of
tutorials that was completed earlier this year by joseph lee. what I
find really daunting with nvda is all the different cursors that it has
and screen review modes, with jaws basically I use two cursors the pc
and jaws cursor and that's it, with nvda I seem to have half a dozen
different ways to review what's on screen, half the thing is the
terminology is so different to jaws.

I did try to switch to it once, but I kept being tempted to go running
back to jaws when I couldn't figure something out, maybe I should
uninstall jaws and give it a go for a week and see how I get on.

I will have a look at my subscription settings, I have my subscription
on digest mode but when I get emails its just a list of topics with
links actual messages are not bundled in the digest so I have to open
links in my web browser to read topics.

thanks for the help anyway.

Alex.
