Thanks I'm using a Windows10 PC and think the settings will probably be in the
software for the Corsair headphones. I'll have to wait for sighted assistance
to try and examine that though.

That's called surround sound. If your phone has dolby support on it you want
to enable that for your headphones as well as any smart sound configuration
item and see if that makes a positive difference. If that's already been done
I have no more ideas.

[blind-gamers] the drone game

2020-12-19 Thread Travis Siegel
Windowbridge source code is still sitting on my HD, and I can't do a
thing with it, because when I received my copy of the source code, it
was missing some rather important pieces, so the program was
uncompilable.  I didn't bother to try converting it to work without
those pieces, because it would require just about an entire rewrite to
accomplish that.  It'd almost be easier to write a screen reader from
scratch than to try to use the source I received, which is a real shame,
because that was one really nice screen reader.

True, however I am unsure how updated freedos is.
At any rate, unless you have a serial synth, or a computer supporting
it, and you will need both, freedos, drdos, prehistoric dos 6.22, or
dos7.1 will not be available to you.
Neither will vms of dos.
Dosbox is free or use linux is probably most updated right now though
talking dosbox has not had updates in ages.
Over that, if you have a 32 bit windows addition you can get that.
Price wize, I wouldn't spend the cash on 32 bit win10 since you can
only get this with the 32-64 retail flash stick which costs 300nz or
there abouts.
You could buy a key I guess, and use a 32 bit iso on it if you want.
The good news is that a lot of people at least locally here in new
zealand on sites like trademe are porning off their legal windows 7
and 8 disks for next to nothing so you can upgrade them to win10.
If you can get an xp disk that could help to.
Failing all that, you could get a win98 or lower distribution and any
key would do then.
However, no nvda below win2k I don't think.
Xp is the oldest you can go so 7 is probably the best if thats what
you want.

Also the win98 and lower dos terminals really were not the best as
they put out a lot more info than one would like.
I guess if you never needed sound you could run jaws for dos or
flipper inside the emulator, but the best screen access you will get
on dosbox is asap and you will need com0com for that.
To be honest, what we really need in the emulators now is a full coppy
of windoweyes for the win 3.1 os so that I can run silent steel
without windoweyes going into demo mode.
On that note, what the heck happened to windowbridge.
That was almost like the older readers, it was free but for what it
was I would have gladly spent cash on it.

There's also the opensource dos project called freedos, and you can find
it at:

https://www.freedos.org/

I also believe that paragon still sells their PTS DOS system. I bought
my copy years ago, so I don't know if it's still up for sale on their
site, but is still listed in my downloads when I go to my purchases.

You can find them at:

http://www.paragon-software.com

I don't see the PTS DOS listed anywhere on their site, but as I said,
It's still in my purchased software, and I can (and have) download
copies of it, including source code, so perhaps if you send them an
email and ask about it, they will be willing to sell you a copy.

PTS DOS2K  is a (as the name says) 2K compatible version of dos, that
comes with source code, and is supposed to be 100 percent MSDOS
compatible.  I did find 1 edge case where it did not work with a dos
program that used extended memory as system memory, but that's not a
surprise, since it didn't work with opendos either. Everything else I
used it for over the years has worked just fine.

(just for reference, opendos is the DRDOS version that was released as
opensource when the company was named caldera, which was identical to
their caldera dos product.

I have that too, though I've not been able to find it as opensource
anymore, I do have the originals, so no issues there. :)

Come to think of it, since it was released as opensource, I should be
able to upload those disks for download by others.  Not the PTS DOS
though, that isn't opensource, but it is cool to have source code to dos
though.

Its dos, and a 16 bit program.

go to cutt.us/blindvms and look up my podcast on dosbox I may even
have one on configurations.

You will need a copy of com0com , and allow the com ports through its
a bit complex than that and I can' tell you exactly how I got it
because by default its something like cnca0 or cncb2 or something like
that.

The com ports that you select are those available in the system.

After you do that then in theory you can do that.

If you don't want to bother with dosbox, get a system you don't care
for and do a reformat and install windows any version 32 bit.

However, it must only have up to 4gb ram because you will not be able
to use more than that.

If you don't want to do that, you can do a vm and have a 32 bit os
like windows xp or something for gaming if you want.

If you are adventurous, you can run linux with dosbox via ssh or old
dosemu which hasn't been updated in ages.

dosbox is at http://batsupport.com/unsupported/dosbox.

Finally, if you have the means, you can get
