Just for reffernce, the http (hyper text transfer protocol) also known
as the web), wasn't invented until the early 1990's.  By that point, ftp
(file transfer protocol) had been around for something like 30 years,
since it was pretty close to one of the first protocols on the internet.

In fact, there's still a good amount of ftp traffic online these days,
it's no accident that web browsers handle ftp urls as well as http ones,
it's a design feature, so the user doesn't have to worry about the
protocol, but can still get the files they need.

Yeah, the "contact us" links on websites used to be mailto URL's, but
they have since been replaced with contact forms. In fact, at one

then, but there are more obscure protocols; ever seen a link that
started with ftp? I wouldn't be surprised if there were FTP servers
before there were HTTP (web) servers.

For a while now the Ebon Sky Studios team has been hard at work
preparing
Sable for external QA testing. Since we first announced the project,
we’ve
received an overwhelmingly positive response from the community. We’ve
been
approached by a number of people wanting to be part of the testing
process
for Sable. Our original goal was to have a small group of testers work on
QA testing Sable; trying to identify bugs and generally trying their
absolute best to break the software.

We are aware that having a small team of testers would mean that many of
you would have to wait for a while before getting to play with Sable for
yourselves. However, we appreciate these are extremely difficult and
uncertain times for everyone; no matter where you are.

As a team, we decided to try and do our part during these unprecedented
times to say thank you to all our followers and to lend a hand during the
Covid19 pandemic. Bearing all of this in mind, we still intend to gather
an
elite team of 5 QA testers, but we will now change our plans and also
offer
an open QA test version of Sable for everyone to download and play with.
The public version may have a few small restrictions (such as an
expiration
date).

However, for anyone interested in being part of the initial QA testing
phase, you will have access to Sable before everyone else does. In
addition, you will have direct contact with the team to forward on your
feedback and will get a personal mention in the credits of our first game
for volunteering your time.

So, going forward, for anyone interested in being part of the initial
team
of 5 QA testers, we would ask you to apply via email to
i...@ebonskystudios.com, with the subject line: "QA tester." In addition,
there are some questions that we would like you to answer in your email.
These will allow us to hand-pick the people that are best suited for the
testing process. Applications must be received no later than 23:59 EST,
on
Wednesday 22nd April; applications received after this date will not be
accepted. We expect an influx of applications, so we regretfully will not
be able to reply to everyone. For anyone not selected, you will still be
free to download and test the publicly released version. Our hand-picked
testers will have priority access to the QA testing version

Hi Robert,

Thanks for the post. Since Sable is still in its Alpha stage, it’s just too
early to confirm exact details on things such as distribution. These kind of
finer details about Sable we will be able to discuss in more detail nearer to
Sables official release. What I can say however, which may answer your question
is that games created using Sable will only run on windows.

This may have been answered previously, but I can't figure out where the answer
might be. When we are all finished with our projects, what about publishing? I
don't know any audio game publishers at all. What will the exports be in? Just
a standard .EXE file so we can host it on our own websites and charge for it,
if we so wish, or will the export be compatible with a wide array of systems.
Like, for example, if I wanted to try to publish my audio game in the Xbox and
Microsoft store? Will you guys publish these games or just give us the tools to
create them?

just ten testers, since there were so many fantastic applications. So apologies

Thanks for the positive words and support, it is great to see people so excited

Hmmm same here.

I sadly never saw the application so never applied.

It would be nice  to test but yeah I'll buy the product later and make
something maybe.

Hi Hunter,

We’ve had a huge number of applications come in already. Its fantastic to see
so much interest and enthusiasm towards the project. as we stated in our
original post with the application form however, , , we are unfortunately
unable to reply to everyone who sends in an application, due to the high number
of applications we are receiving, as mentioned inn our original post we will
only be able to contact those successful testers. The closing date for testers
to apply is 23:59 Wednesday 22nd April, after which time the team will meet to
discuss applications and then contact the select group of successful testers.

Thanks again for the interest in the project.

Yeah, the "contact us" links on websites used to be mailto URL's, but
they have since been replaced with contact forms. In fact, at one
time, form submissions went to a mailto link but then people started
preferring server-side scripts. So yeah, mailto appears every now and
then, but there are more obscure protocols; ever seen a link that
started with ftp? I wouldn't be surprised if there were FTP servers
before there were HTTP (web) servers.

QA testers, we would ask you to apply via email to i...@ebonskystudios.com
<mailto:i...@ebonskystudios.com> , with the subject line: "QA tester." In
addition, there are some questions that we would like you to answer in your
email. These will allow us to hand-pick the people that are best suited for the
testing process. Applications must be received no later than 23:59 EST, on
Wednesday 22nd April; applications received after this date will not be
accepted. We expect an influx of applications, so we regretfully will not be
able to reply to everyone. For anyone not selected, you will still be free to
download and test the publicly released version. Our hand-picked testers will
have priority access to the QA testing version of Sable, giving us a chance to
iron out any immediate bugs.

Again, the email address for anyone interested in becoming one of our elite
testers is i...@ebonskystudios.com <mailto:i...@ebonskystudios.com> . Remember
to put "QA tester"

in the subject line or your email may be missed. Please remember to include
your answers to the following questions:

Sable QA Test application

Full NameEmail Address:

In your own words, please describe any previous testing experience you have:

In your own words, what is your previous experience playing role-playing games.
This does not need to be limited to computer games, but could include table-top
role-playing game experiences, e.g. Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition,
Pathfinder, Dark Heresy, etc.

In your own words, why are you interested in testing Sable?

How much time are you willing to spend on testing Sable?

Pro tip, when entering an email link, you can put ?subject=string at the
end.

So for example, this link has
the url mailto:i...@ebonskystudios.com?subject=Qa%20tester.

HTH,

Take care,

Chris Norman
