Here in North Florida, Rye grows well in the winter but needs shade in the summer. Can't speak much for land prep though. I found the rye grew from seed with minimal attention. My wife objects to it as it usually means we would need to mow most of the winter. RD`s

I think you should consider having a soil test done. Some county extension offices will do them for free, but I am taking mine in and having it done for $10. You can also buy soil testing kits pretty easily to do it yourself. This will let you know just what your soil needs rather than a
