Is there such a thing  you might ask, such as any type of sump pump  
maintenence .Well there really is not, in my opinion except  keeping  
debris from the area  of the impellers. I say this as  most newer pumps 
that set totally underwater are sealed units. Recently we discoverd that   
it  was not the pump that quit working  because of an interior  problem 
but because of a faulty exterior float valve.Now, Ihave learned a new 
trick, if you are  operating more than one sump  pump that utilizes  an 
  exterior  float valve. . this style of pump has one plug which plugs 
into the  into another. Usually the first plug is the one which operates 
the float valve and the second the  pump. so if you or I , the blind 
person feels this plug settup at a wall outlet it sticks out much more 
, the piggy back  two plug  makes it obviously stick out much further. 
Should one pump quit working , one can simply unplug that  pump and 
plugh it into the float valve plug of another pump. . that is just a FYI 
on learning about pumps during a rainstorm. Lee
