Re: Orca on manjaro

2019-01-07 Thread Linux for blind general discussion
Hello list,

I was trying to follow the talking arch installer instructions. I had a problem
because the instructions say to install the arch on a blank hard drive. I have
ubundu on the hard drive currently. When I try to access the hard drive by
hitting or typing cgdisk /dev/sda I get a error which says it was unable to
access that drive. How can I format the drive so that it is blank or how do I
get around this problem,

Sincerely,

Michael maslo

The star key on your number pad just above the 9 key if pressed cycles
through some settings one of which turns highlighting on.

I think slint will be an easier install experience especially for the
new user. Even more so than any ubuntu variant. Slint at least
interact with you all the way through and let you know what it's doing.
These other graphical variants have a couple rough spots like the
timezone box for one and a couple boxes after that I never did get any
of them to identify what the box was or expected input.

Listen to the audio file for the instructions. There is a detailed
installation guide on archlinux on the archlinux.org website but the
audio install tutorial should get you a good way. Understand, you do
all of this stuff step-wise. That is you do one step and make sure all
is as expected then move along to the next step.

Re: Orca on manjaro

2019-01-06 Thread Linux for blind general discussion
Hello,

I looked at the talking arch and when I read over the instructions on how to
install it, I was past confused. If I did not have to edit this or edit that I
would. It sounds real good. However I am a beginner and the instructions sound
overwhelming. Is this correct?

Sincerely,

Michael maslo

Unless that has had an update, it can't be thoroughly verified. I got
it working over here only because I decided to try getting it working
without verifying the iso. Anyone who installs that distro rolls the
dice.

Wouldn’t recommend since the manjaro installer isn’t accessible
(Calamares), while many distros work out of the box.

This also show that accessibility will be less well managed on that distro.

For now, Ubuntu Mate seem to have taken the lead for accessibility.
