At Peter Mac, Telstra produced a field strength survey. The antennae
are quite directional. The field strength inside the building directly
behind the units was very low.
A much higher field strength was received from those on the Mercy
Maternity Hospital across the Fitzroy gardens.

Hello all,

Just wondering if anyone out there has had experience with mobile phone
towers on their hospital building.

Any issues that need consideration?

Ie. Induced interference?

Re: [bmelist] mobile phone towers.

2014-10-13 Thread Michael Flood
Hi Ray

Have a chat with Frank Meaco at Monash.

My recollection was that they had antennae all over the roof, and on the
wall just outside ICU back in the days when phones were GSM 2 (TDMA), and we
knew they did cause some problems with equipment because of the pulsatile
nature of the RF envelope for TDMA.

..but I don't believe Monash ever had a problem !!

If you think about it, the manufacturer wants to maximise the RF radiation
where it can be useful .ie forward of the antenna, any energy out the
back is wasted energy. Secondly, typically the energy envelope for a
mounted antenna hits the ground a couple of hundred meters from the
antenna.by which time the inverse square law means the E-field is really
low and does not present a hazardsomething those who did not want a
tower 'in their backyard' could never get their head around !! For them,
that was the safest place for it to be.

Since the phone systems changed to CDMA, WCDMA, spread spectrum and other
modulation technologies which I don't profess to understand, the RF envelope
is no longer pulsatile in nature, and as a consequence phone interference is
almost a non-event these days.

Hope this helps.

Regards

At Goulburn we have had mobile phone cell on the building for about 2 years
now and recently had an addition off antennas. As far as we are aware there
has been no interference issues.
