[Boatanchors] Signal Shifters
A few years ago, I got the bug to become a Signal Shifter collector and now I have five. But it's time to start thinning, to avoid burdening others with a cleanup, so I'm testing the waters re selling them on to other caretakers. I have the 1938, 1940, 1942, and military versions. They look different, but are virtually identical, circuit wise. I believe there was an early Shifter with one, or no, VR tube, but I haven't been able to find one. They all work, with varying degrees of chirp and drift, but when warmed up can be decent, for casual use. SO, is anyone interested in shifters? I have several sets of coils and the military model has a full drawer of coils. The '38, the oldest, is the one I'd sell last, but if someone were desperate we could talk. I've enjoyed the Shifters and putting them in CX, but One is more than enough! If you think you might be wanting a Shifter this is a good opportunity. I'm not giving away, but not looking to get rich either. Just let me know. I really don't want to use Ebay, but will if necessary. 73, Wilson W4BOH ___ Boatanchors mailing list Boatanchors@puck.nether.net https://puck.nether.net/mailman/listinfo/boatanchors
Re: [Boatanchors] Signal Shifters
Wilson, I have a .jpg schematic for a Signal Shifter with one OD3 regulator and another with an OD3 and a OA3 regulator. I also have a couple of old QST copies on reducing TVI. Plus a copy of*the original "INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLATION AND OPERATION OF THE MEISSNER SIGNAL SHIFTERMODEL EX*" . All is in electronic format. Is that of any usefulness to you? 73, Ray, W4BYG On 9/19/2015 4:37 PM, Wilson wrote: I haven’t bothered anyone about Shifters in a while, but getting ready for the CX event tomorrow (classicexchange.org) got me going again. I just got my new 1949 model on the air and it will be the chirp heard round the world tomorrow, 20m. That makes FIVE! Now to the question: Does anyone have early (1938) Shifter literature? I have all QST ads, but need a manual from the early model, not so much for info, since the circuit hardly changed through three models, but to complete my “collection”. Also, I know the very earliest model had NO VR tubes, because I have a blurry picture of one, and that there was a model with ONE VR tube. All mine, even 1938, have two VR tubes. Does anyone have info on when VR tubes were added and if model numbers changed? Of course there is no model number on any shifter! Considering how voltage sensitive the Shifter oscillator is WITH VR tubes, it must have been a terror with none! So, all you shifter lovers, please check if you have manuals and/or pictures of the earliest models, with no or one VR tube. I’ll have three on CX tomorrow, so listen around .045 on 20, 40, and 80. I say around because I never know quite where I’ll be! I’ll also have a TX few have ever heard. You’ll have to hear me on 40 to find out what it is. 73, Wilson W4boh ___ Boatanchors mailing list Boatanchors@puck.nether.net https://puck.nether.net/mailman/listinfo/boatanchors -- I'm no longer young enough to know everything! ___ Boatanchors mailing list Boatanchors@puck.nether.net https://puck.nether.net/mailman/listinfo/boatanchors
[Boatanchors] Signal Shifters Again
OK, I now have three shifters, but not many coils. Please let me know if you have or know anyone with ham band coils for sale. And I’d like to get one of the ones with the big external dial and vernier drive, like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Meissner-DeLuxe-Signal-Shifter-Great-Shape-/331277310809?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0hash=item4d21aa9b59autorefresh=true I’m also interested in finding out when the first model Shifter, the one with the airplane dial, got its first VR tube and when it got its second. I’ve seen pictures of all three arrangements, so I hope I can find out more. I’d like to get an example of the very first one, with no VR tubes. 73, Wilson W4BOH ___ Boatanchors mailing list Boatanchors@puck.nether.net https://puck.nether.net/mailman/listinfo/boatanchors
