Hi Bob, The sticky/jumpy tuning is probably due to some lubricant on the brass tuning flywheel and it's small wheel, and maybe the edge of the dial it rides on. Have him clean those well with alcohol, also lube, very sparingly, the bushings for the various shafts in the mechanism, as well
