Re: [boinc_dev] 7.10 client release

2017-09-17 Thread Charlie Fenton
As I wrote earlier, I'm working on screensaver fixes for compatibility with Mac
OS 10.13 High Sierra. But it will be a few more days or a week before that is
ready for testing, so don't hold off on 7.10 for that. I'll merge it into both
master and the branch after the pull request is approved.

I likely will also want to merge these into a hot-fix version 7.8.3 for Mac
only with the screensaver changes before 7.10 is ready for public release,
since OS 10.13 is set for public release on September 25.

At the same time, I will be submitting a tech support request tonight with
Apple asking if there is a better way to fix the problem than the one I have
been working on. Ideal of course would be a fix that does not require any
changes to the project graphics apps, but I'm not too hopeful for that.

(As I wrote before, I expect the fix I am currently working on to only require
the projects to rebuild their existing graphics apps with the new libraries
that I will supply; no changes to the project's code should be needed. It will
of course also involve changes to the BOINC screensaver coordinator included
with the BOINC Mac installer.)

Cheers,
--Charlie

[boinc_dev] 7.10 client release

2017-09-17 Thread David Anderson

Master has a number of improvements relative to 7.8.2,
so I'd like to make a release branch and start testing soon.

Is there any work in progress that I should wait for?

Thanks -- David

[boinc_dev] 7.8.2 client crashes immediately on Mac OS 10.12

2017-09-17 Thread Jord van der Elst
As per this thread: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=11853

"I installed 7.8.2 last night; when I checked in the morning, BOINC Manager
complained that it couldn't connect to a client.
After some digging, I found that the client is crashing pretty much
immediately, with the following stack trace on thread 0:

Thread 0 Crashed:: Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread
0 libsystem_kernel.dylib 0x7fff90e0fd42 __pthread_kill + 10
1 libsystem_pthread.dylib 0x7fff90efd457 pthread_kill + 90
2 libsystem_c.dylib 0x7fff90d754bb __abort + 140
3 libsystem_c.dylib 0x7fff90d75d7e __stack_chk_fail + 205
4 boinc 0x000100053d9d 0x1 + 343453

9 boinc 0x00010002dad5 0x1 + 187093
10 boinc 0x00011034 0x1 + 4148"

It got worse for this user, as:

"I uninstalled 7.8.2 and re-installed 7.6.34; I am still seeing the same
crash (even after a reboot). 7.6.34 was working immediately before I
installed 7.8.2 (though I don't know when the last time I started it up
was; probably at least a couple of weeks).

I'm digging around through backups to see if there is any library that
might have changed."
