Re: [SlimDevices: Boom] Line In suddenly not working as input from computer
I've had good results even using a phone as analogue source too, so it's a bit weird that your laptop's output is so low. -Transcoded from Matt's brain by Tapatalk- -- Hardware: 3x Touch, 1x Radio, 2x Receivers, 1 HP Microserver NAS with Debian+LMS 7.9.0 Music: ~1300 CDs, as 450 GB of 16/44k FLACs. Re: [SlimDevices: Boom] Line In suddenly not working as input from computer
The input goes into an analogue to digital converter before hitting the DSP and then onto the amps. Can't do much about the gain settings though.
I've found that the input switching on the radio sometimes needs you to unplug and replug the line-in cable to get it working, I imagine the boom is similar. (It's nothing to do with LMS it's entirely a local firmware facility). -Transcoded from Matt's brain by Tapatalk- -- Hardware: 3x Touch, 1x Radio, 2x Receivers, 1 HP Microserver NAS with Debian+LMS 7.9.0 Music: ~1300 CDs, as 450 GB of 16/44k FLACs. Re: [SlimDevices: Boom] Behavior of display
I wouldn't say reduced uptime improves reliability or lifetime, quite the opposite in fact. Though gear is much more reliable than it used to be anyway. Fair enough, you save a bit of cash over a year. You'd save more energy by walking to the shop instead of driving though, *once*.. :) -Transcoded from Matt's brain by Tapatalk- -- Hardware: 3x Touch, 1x Radio, 2x Receivers, 1 HP Microserver NAS with Debian+LMS 7.9.0 Music: ~1300 CDs, as 450 GB of 16/44k FLACs. Re: [SlimDevices: Boom] Is Boom speaker deterioration inevitable ?
I've seen this before, which is why I wouldn't be surprised if they push the low frequencies into mono and drive both speakers with it. The point of the DSP design is to maximise low frequency output and in a box this small no-one is ever going to get a sense of stereo separation below about 100hz. -Transcoded from Matt's brain by Tapatalk- -- Hardware: 3x Touch, 1x Radio, 2x Receivers, 1 HP Microserver NAS with Debian+LMS 7.9.0 Music: ~1300 CDs, as 450 GB of 16/44k FLACs. Re: [SlimDevices: Boom] Is Boom speaker deterioration inevitable ?
Fwiw due to the DSP programming in the Boom and Radio the bass cone operates at close to full excursion almost all the time, even at modest volume levels. -Transcoded from Matt's brain by Tapatalk- -- Hardware: 3x Touch, 1x Radio, 2x Receivers, 1 HP Microserver NAS with Debian+LMS 7.9.0 Music: ~1300 CDs, as 450 GB of 16/44k FLACs. Re: [SlimDevices: Boom] Is Boom speaker deterioration inevitable ?
I doubt deterioration is to do with use level, more likely it's to do with heat cycling or exposure to moisture. So if it's left in the sun part of the day, or kept in a humid environment. There is a perception they all do it but I don't think that's true. -Transcoded from Matt's brain by Tapatalk- -- Hardware: 3x Touch, 1x Radio, 2x Receivers, 1 HP Microserver NAS with Debian+LMS 7.9.0 Music: ~1300 CDs, as 450 GB of 16/44k FLACs. Re: [SlimDevices: Boom] Distorted Bass, Spilt Speaker, Exact Replacement Available
Re ring the cones. There's no real benefit to replacement. I saw a kit on eBay just the other day. By the way, the nature of the audio correction in the dsp on the boom means that actually the speakers are operating at nominal excursion at all times, even at modest volume levels. It actually cranks the bass down as you turn the volume up so that the amps and cones don't become overwhelmed. Take a look at the white paper kicking around, it's a great idea. drmatt's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=59498 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105534 ___ Boom mailing list Boom@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/boom
