Re: Steam Safety valve leak

2017-08-10 Thread Toby Rose
Re-looked where the leak was coming from - looks like it is highly likely
to be from the valve itself rather than the thread - Will order a new one.

I think you can disassemble - but mine is on too tight to be able too
(rounded off the hex nut on the top bit).

Thanks for the help.

Re: Steam Safety valve leak

2017-08-10 Thread Benjamin McCafferty
If 5 wraps of teflon doesn’t seal it, I doubt pipe dope will either. But
possibly. I might try more teflon just for giggles, but probably it’s the valve
itself. I don’t recall if you can disassemble, but if it’s like the vacuum
breaker, it may just have an o-ring or other mating surface that has scale, or
has developed a crack. That would be my next stop.

Re: Steam Safety valve leak

2017-08-10 Thread Toby Rose
Yes the spring loaded one.

Threads were cleaned, 5 wraps of tape.

Can't see a crack in it, could be that the seal on the valve where it opens
for an overpressure is leaking, hard to tell definately that it is from the
thread rather than the valve.

Will see if I can get some dope tomorrow after work.

Cheers

I'd try food safe liquid pipe dope. I think that will fix the problem
unless there's a crack in the fitting.
