Lynx 2.8.4 tells the truth that the page is actually a frame on brinmirror.parasiticmeme.com, but once you get past that, it is practically unreadable anyway: a black blob of text above a big blue blob of mostly undifferentiated text followed by a longish collection of centered links followed by a fairly more readable collection of news items. Using Camino, on davidbrin.net, all I get is: Site Temporarily Unavailable We apologize for the inconvenience. Please contact the webmaster/ tech support immediately to have them rectify this. error id: bad_httpd_conf Exactly the same result using IE. I'm using a Mac in Australia. Regards, Ray. I just had an extensive conversation with Level Two tech support, and they had a few ideas. The following countries are blocked by most major ISP's: China Cuba Iran Iraq Libya North Korea Nigeria Sudan Syria They said that there are no blocks or technical reasons that DavidBrin.net shouldn't work from Australia, and virtually every other country that isn't on the block list. He did mention that depending on the ISP, it could take 3 to 5 days for the new DNS information to propagate to their servers. Their suggestion was to give it a few more days and try again. If this is the case, that could also possibly explain why http://brinmirror.parasiticmeme.com/ didn't appear to work right away. This subdomain could simply be slow to propagate. In the mean time, here are a couple of more URL's that use the same host. See if you can get to these, they have been around for months and years: http://www.taylornunn.com/ http://www.europastation.com/gary/bttf/ http://www.europastation.com/gary/taylorpics/ If these addresses can be accessed from Australia, then perhaps it is simply a propagation issue that will resolve itself in a few days. Let me know. Gary ___ http://www.mccmedia.com/mailman/listinfo/brin-l
Brin website - Browsers, versions countries...
As most of you have read, Dr. Brin's website has been mirrored to: http://brinmirror.parasiticmeme.com/ , taken care of by Rob Perkins. I have set up a redirect and mask so that the URL DavidBrin.net redirects to the mirror site, masks the URL to read http://www.davidbrin.net with a title of: Welcome to DavidBrin.net, the DavidBrin.com mirror site. If possible, can we get some tests to determine browser function and locality availability? I don't have any control over the mirror site, but I do have control over the DavidBrin.net redirect configuration. If the redirect doesn't work from certain countries, I can fix that. We have determined that the following browsers *APPEAR* to work: IE 6 Netscape 8.0 for XP Dr. Brin has experienced problems when he attempts to go to DavidBrin.net via Netscape, but I'm not sure what version he has, and I think he is using a Mac version. If anyone visits the mirror site , especially via the DavidBrin.net redirect, please post it here or email me directly and let me know what make and version of browser you are using. Also, if any list members are from Asia or Australia, or if you know anyone from either, please have them access both DavidBrin.com and DavidBrin.net to see if they can access either.
