Yeah, democracy's a real bitch.

I don't know that it was required to win to go to Bob Jones University, but
the idea that Catholics should object to, say, Seventh Day Adventists
voting for the same candidates as we would - is, well, nothing short of
absurd.

Indeed, anybody who says otherwise doesn't understand the first thing about
democracy. After all, the alternative is a set of deep sectarian
divisions in which adherents of different religions do not mix and instead
stay loay solely to their own sectarian parties. Indeed, Tom Beck is
apparently expressing surprise that at least one Catholic has rejected this
disutopian alternative, and has instead chosen to be an active participant
in a pluralist democracy.

Then again, every single thing that Tom Beck has ever had to say about
Christianity, let alone Catholics, on this list has been absurd - and its
kind of weird that I'm the only guy here who will call him on it. This
is no different than that long rant he posted about how worried he was that
Christians were daring to *pray* for the President of the United States.
Oh the horror!!!!

Let me put it this way, if George Bush were to come to Columbia Union
College (the Seventh Day Adventist College) in Takoma Park and speak, not
only would I not be offended - but I would probably try and get tickets to go.

JDG - Not getting into the "Republicans Appeal to Racists" chestnut... we
have Fools around here for that topic.
