My political opinions lean more and more to Anarchy

control not whiskered men with bombs) - or to
 'unconstitutional' Monarchy.

An anarchist who also likes monarchs?

Maybe the reason he was a good storyteller was because he was hopelessly
naive about reality?

Gandalf WAS a ring lord. He held one of the Elves' original 3 rings,
dedicated to self-righteously keeping Middle Earth static.

But that letter discusses another kind of ring lord: Gandalf as
_the_ Ring Lord, Gandalf with the One Ring. BTW, expect a
flood of hate mail. Someone mentioned the slashdot article in
the Tolkien Mailing List, and I zealously pointed the original
article in your site O:-)

[on the plus side, maybe they will read some of the book samples
and buy them...]

Why should he expect hate mail? What is the big deal? He basically says
that it is a fun story. Is questioning whether the heroes of the story
are good role models for society such a bad thing to do? One can enjoy
the story but not idolize the characters.

Out of 60 or so emails so far, 50 have been laudatory. 5 questioning
and 5 politely nit-picky. Not one hate message

You must not understand the rabidness of fanboys at all. The fanboy capacity for
blind allegiance can be frightening.
