The way brltty handles things as of 5.0 is indeed different. That change was

It hasn't been defined but the syntax would allow it:

Occationally, the keys on the HT Actilino braille display doesn't
work. Actually, I had the same problems with Active Braille. I turned
on key event logging in BRLTTY. If you want, I can send you the log
file off list. Please let me know.
