Turning off the preference (perhaps it should be off by default) should stop
the messages. If it doesn't then that's a bug.

Not quite. You need to specify usb: (the trailing colon is important).
Also, are you using the usb port directly or are you using a usb to serial
adapter? The -d usb: syntax is for using the port directly.

problem, as I recall, is an invalid ioctl() argument, whereas I,
perhaps wrongly, thought you were getting no such file or directory.

Or the new (not quite released yet) brltty, which will also not try to
communicate with gpm if Window Follows Pointer is off. It should be released
fairly soon, now, although, of course, I'm not sure how quickly GenToo will
pick it up.

tell you hnow to do it. That's what I do here for all my other systems since it
means that I don't have to reconnect my braille display, and, therefore, I can
