[Bug-gnuzilla] Building Icecat

2019-01-07 Thread Brennan Benkert
Hi all,

I know macOS isn't a high priority platform, but I wanted to give the new
version of Icecat a shot. I've used the instructions for building Icecat on
macOS successfully for previous versions:
https://libreplanet.org/wiki/Group:IceCat/Compile_and_package/build_52.6.0_on_macOS

So, naturally I went for it using the same instructions with the current
version (60.3.0 as of writing). First there was a complaint that rust was not
installed, so I installed rust using the suggested method of using rustup.rs

Next there was an issue finding LLVM, so I installed LLVM using Homebrew. After
this the make process completed successfully so I ran make package. Naturally
it failed, throwing a bunch of errors like:

Missing file(s):
/IceCat.app/Contents/MacOS/browser/extensions/tprb.ad...@searxes.danwin1210.me/

Also, there is this final few lines:

mozpack.errors.AccumulatedErrors
make[3]: *** [stage-package] Error 1
make[2]: *** [make-package] Error 2
make[1]: *** [default] Error 2
make: *** [package] Error 2

I tried the entire process a couple times, and did a little searching for the
meaning of the errors, before I was ready to give up. When I went to change my
default browser, it showed Icecat 60.3.0 as the current default!

So here I am with Icecat 60.3.0 working on my Mac, in spite of the errors
during make package. As some of you could probably guess, I'm stuck running
this app out of the /dist folder. Any thoughts on what is happening, and why
I'm able to run the app in spite of the errors seen?--

Re: [Bug-gnuzilla] Android - cannot configure Add-ons - denied permission WRITE_SETTINGS

2018-06-12 Thread Brennan
Hi everyone,

I have noticed the same issue in Icecat mobile 52.6.0; apologies as I have not
had time to report it. I have seen this on both an LGG3 running the factory
software as well as a Google Nexus 7 tablet running the latest LineageOS

Re: [Bug-gnuzilla] Hidden HTML detected, would you like to reveal it?

2018-03-12 Thread Brennan
My understanding is the “Reveal hidden HTML” extension is responsible for this
behavior. If it is causing problems or annoying, you can simply disable the
extension in “about:addons”

[Bug-gnuzilla] HTML5 Video Everywhere

2018-03-08 Thread Brennan
Is anyone else successfully using the add-on “HTML5 Video Everywhere!” in
Icecat 52.6.0?

It is not working for me (at least not for YouTube), and it also ignores any
settings changes I make.

Re: [Bug-gnuzilla] Icecat vs Icecat mobile behavior

2017-12-26 Thread Brennan
The only blocker in use is the built-in spyBlock extension. I assumed this
add-on would use the same list on mobile or desktop. The only change is I’ve
added the malware domains(dot)com subscription.

[Bug-gnuzilla] Icecat vs Icecat mobile behavior

2017-12-19 Thread Brennan
Hi all,

I’ve been using Icecat on desktop for quite some time, and just recently began
using it on android. I noticed some ads are coming through on mobile, but not
on desktop. Is there a difference in the block lists being implemented in the
mobile vs. desktop versions of Icecat? Is there some other detail I’m
overlooking that would be causing this?

I’m using Icecat mobile downloaded from F-droid, and the desktop version built
on MacOS Sierra (10.12.6) but following the directions for High Sierra.

Thank you for the awesome work you’re doing!
