then what you get - in the example - is a single note printed with the
combined duration of the pitch-assigned duration (i.e. the c8) plus the
two 'bare' durations that precede it.

Also there is a known issues in the footnotes section of the Notation
Reference to that effect as well.
As far as my limited internals of LilyPond understanding when you use a
'_\markup' that counts I think as a 'trypescript'.
But I am sure if I am wrong someone will speak out.

doing the right thing due to #2 and #3. And even if
somehow you don't think any of those are important, you really
shouldn't make every MIDI user figure this out from scratch for
themselves.
