For me, under Cygwin, i had to apply the following in order to compile (GCC
4.9.1):
diff -uNrp make-4.0.90-original/job.c make-4.0.90-patched/job.c
--- make-4.0.90-original/job.c2014-09-30

Builds and seems to work as expected on OpenVMS/VAX V7.3 and Alpha V8.3.
Same on Tru64 V5.1B, but with one minor compiler (Compaq C
V6.5-011-48C5K)
