2014-05-20 Thread Jose Antonio Ortega Ruiz
Follow-up Comment #3, bug #41097 (project mdk):

Joel, i think this is happening because you have an old version of libreadline
installed in '/usr/local/include' and its header file is being read instead of
the one in '/usr/local/Cellar/readline/6.3.3/include'... could that be the
case?

Follow-up Comment #2, bug #41097 (project mdk):

Hi. I'm attempting to build current git head on OS X 10.9. I can confirm
that the archive problem no longer occurs (it occurred when I downloaded 1.2.7
and attempted to build it, Google search of the error led me here).

Unfortunately there's also a compiler error later in the build:

gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I.. -I/usr/local/include -Wall -fno-strict-aliasing

Follow-up Comment #1:

Thanks for the report, Ryan. I've commited to the git repo a candidate fix,
but i cannot test it because i don't have an OS X system. Could you try it,
please?

This problem was known to the MacPorts project when mdk 1.2.1 was initially
added to MacPorts in 2005, but was apparently not reported to you because the
problem remains with 1.2.7:

https://trac.macports.org/ticket/5090

It seems that libreplace.a is empty, and OS X's version of ar does not allow
you to use empty libraries.

The workaround we committed was to add a dummy function to the library so that
it is not empty:
