Great thanks to you Gavin: with your help I could _AT LAST_ make it work. Answers below...

This does not work with the SVN version, here is what I get: --8<----8<----8<----8<----8<-- begin -->8---->8---->8---->8---->8---- Vincent@AIGLEROYAL /c/Programmes/installation/texinfo-install/trunk/tp $ make ca.us-ascii.gmo make: *** No rule to make target `ca.us-ascii.gmo'. Stop. --8<----8<----8<----8<----8<-- end -->8---->8---->8---->8---->8---- I think that now I can understand what has happened, I have generated the Makefile with automake at a time when the gettext utility was not yet installed on my machine, so I have this difference between the SVN Makefile and the release Makefile: --8<----8<----8<----8<----8<-- begin -->8---->8---->8---->8---->8---- $ diff Makefile ../../../texinfo-6.1/tp/Makefile [...] 1006,1008c1006,1008 < MSGFMT = : < MSGFMT_015 = : < MSGMERGE = : --- > MSGFMT = /local/bin/msgfmt > MSGFMT_015 = /local/bin/msgfmt > MSGMERGE = /local/bin/msgmerge 1044c1044 < PACKAGE_DATE = 26 February 2016 --- > PACKAGE_DATE = 6 February 2016 [...] --8<----8<----8<----8<----8<-- end -->8---->8---->8---->8---->8---- I have tried again to make the full generation (autogen.sh + configure + automake + cd tp + make), and it worked properly. So, the problem can be reworded as follows: when gettext is not installed, the tp/Makefile is generated with gettext tools silently replaced by the `:' command, so it will silently fail to generate the LocalData. There should be at least a warning. Another issue is that, for MSW you need some wrapper, I had to make my own on, but the project does not contain any. VBR, Vincent.
