Summary: Update man wget Documentation for -O Project: GNU Wget Submitted by: None Submitted on: Thu 23 May 2019 04:09:55 PM UTC Category: None Severity: 3 - Normal Priority: 5 - Normal Status: None Privacy: Public Assigned to: None Originator Name: David Whitten Originator Email: whit...@netcom.com Open/Closed: Open Discussion Lock: Any Release: 1.19.4 Operating System: GNU/Linux Reproducibility: None Fixed Release: None Planned Release: None Regression: None Work Required: None Patch Included: None _______________________________________________________ Details: The current man page for wget seems to deprecate the use of -O for the output file name (especially in the case of multiple files). There is no suggestion for what to do to specify the output file names. (--background implies that it can be done with -o but the --output-file=logfile later in man implies this is output for log file output, not the downloaded file.) Elseweb, I saw a suggestion to use: wget -qO- newname URL Which at least handles the one case of downloading a single file name. This does NOT address the multiple file names case. Surely someone is has this need and knows how to do it.
